Abstract
During the course of normal body movements many sensory receptor types are stimulated. They comprise those which seem to be specially evolved to register active movement, namely the proprioceptors, and those which are additionally very sensitive to external stimuli, namely the cutaneous mechano receptors. The elucidation of the connections linking these various receptors to motor neurones has led to a great body of knowledge which must be built into any comprehensive scheme of movement control.
