Abstract

The in-house laboratory is an indispensable tool for any modern printed circuit facility. The support which can be offered to virtually all of the manufacturing operations is too great for a well run shop to do without. The process of manufacturing printed circuits is one of processing chemicals and materials: chemistry of electro and electroless metal deposition, metal etching, photochemistry and photolithography, drilling and machining, as well as other aspects of plastics fabrication. The laboratory can be used for monitoring and maintaining many of the most critical processes, including plating and all of the other wet processes associated with that area, multilayer fabrication, imaging, drilling, quality control, pollution control, and even fabrication. The laboratory is just as indispensable in providing support for customer relations in evaluating failures which may or may not be due to the quality of the printed circuit fabrication.
