Abstract

In course of time the system of units based on the metre, kilogram, second and ampere (MKSA system), has found increasing international acceptance. This system, with extension to cover measurements in the fields of thermodynamics, photometry and chemistry, was put forward in 1960 as the Système International d’Unités (SI) and promises eventually to become the legal system in all metric countries.
