Abstract
The lighting system considered in this chapter includes the headlamps, fog lamps, front and rear side (or parking) lamps, direction indicator or flashing lamps, brake and other warning lamps (fitted on instrument panel) and certain panel, interior illumination lamps with their individual switches. Occasionally a reversing lamp is fitted. The method of wiring all of these lamps is based upon the shunt principle, in which each lamp (with or without its own switch) may be regarded as being connected across the battery terminals, as shown schematically in Fig. 4, on page 21. Examples of complete wiring diagrams, showing the various lamps, etc., are given in Figs. 6 and 7, while fuller information regarding the wiring and installation of the lamps and various other items of electrical equipment is given in Chapter 12.
