The Wiring and Installation of Automobiles

Abstract

The wiring system used on automobiles has been much simplified by the adoption of the earth return method, instead of the completely insulated cable system. On the other hand, due to the growth in recent years of the number of electrical equipment items with their individual wiring systems the wiring has become somewhat more complex. However, with the adoption of such expedients as coloured cables, group harness and improved cable connections the wiring installation has been simplified as much as possible. With the earth-return method while it is important to ensure that all of the earth connections are clean and tight at all times, the greatly increased current flow sections of the metal members of the chassis are such that the resistance of the earth return circuit is negligible.
