Man’s perception of his environment has traditionally been limited by his five senses. As he tried to gain wider control of the environment by delving deeper into its physical nature, for instance through microscopy and astronomy, he reached the limitations of his human senses and therefore generated the need for devices that could help him in his continuing quest.
