Abstract
IN OUR CONSIDERATIONS OF THE CHEMICAL COMPONENTS OF MEMBRANES we have partially anticipated discussion of their organization in the membrane. Thus, the amphipathic nature of membrane lipids was stressed as being compatible with their arrangement as a bilayer (figure 5.3) and in the present chapter we shall be largely concerned with models of membrane structure which incorporate a lipid bilayer as their primary feature.
