Abstract

The present paper is concerned with the Mediterranean isoclimatic zone of Africa north of the Sahara and of the Tropic of Cancer, and with the Near and Middle East, and excluding the tropical zones, i.e. having summer-rain climates. The countries included are

  • North Africa: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt.

  • Near East: Cyprus, Turkey, Israel, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, North and South Yemen.

  • Middle East: Iran, W Afghanistan, SW Pakistan.

This area covers some 12 million km2 (133% of the USA) which are distributed as shown in Table 10.1.
