Scattering of Radiation by Particles

Abstract

When electromagnetic radiation falls on a single particle it may be deflected or absorbed. In the geometrical optics limit the deflection is considered to arise from reflection and refraction, and diffraction on the cross-sectional area. In the wave optics analysis the interpretation is not so simple, but the deflection process is referred to as scattering.
