Abstract
Given the known and theorized physiological, psychological, and social/environmental factors affecting obesity, the clinician will best support the obese client when treatment is designed to modify as many factors as possible.* The purpose of this chapter is to provide a blueprint from which the clinician can design an individualized nutritional plan for weight control. Since permanent weight control requires a lifetime commitment to healthful eating and exercise behaviors, an efficacious plan is one which addresses the physiological, psychological, and social/environmental influences affecting the client.
