Abstract
For an organism to cause disease it must be capable of fulfilling the minimum requirements of any pathogen:
-
(a)
it must first gain entry into the host;
-
(b)
once within the host it must be able to survive and multiply;
-
(c)
it must resist or avoid various host defence mechanisms; and
-
(d)
the host tissues must be damaged in some way.
