Abstract

Inverse problems, in which the stresses and strains are linear functions of the coordinates, are referred to as the elementary problems of the theory of elasticity. In these problems, the compatibility conditions are fulfilled identically, and the solutions are sought in simple forms and predicted by methods used in strength of materials. We examine several such problems.
