Abstract
This book addresses the question of the adjustment of firms to rapid technical change and the role of government policies in this process. The industry chosen for empirical work is the computer numerically controlled (CNC) lathe industry, and the countries that have been investigated are the Newly Industrialized Countries (NICs) Argentina, Taiwan and the Republic of Korea (henceforth Korea), and Japan as well as some European countries. The book is thus an analysis of the global CNC lathe industry.
