The Contributions of Franz J. Kallmann to the Genetics of Schizophrenia

  • Chapter
Research in the Schizophrenic Disorders

Abstract

The work of Franz Kallmann was so closely fused with his own life experiences, his scientific and medical ideals, his delights and his enthusiasms, that it would be impossible to do for him what he would have done to-night—to place in his own perspective almost 40 years of investigation on two continents. I shall try to describe that portion of his research dealing with schizophrenia, recalling perhaps some data or emphases that have been relatively neglected. Before that, however, a few words about Kallmann as a person might supply some hints about why he worked and how he worked, what he was driving at, and by what interests and energies he was moved.
