Abstract
There is something intriguing about the concepts of aging and old age as they are commonly perceived today. Our ambivalent attitude towards aging, as a social phenomenon and as a personal predicament, seems to be rooted in vague and contradictory ideas of what aging is, and of what it is to be aging. As a result, both personal attitudes and public policies need analysis and clarification.
