Abstract

In all epithelial tissues cellular homeostasis is maintained in the same way through a chalone control mechanism which ensures complete stability over the whole range from extreme hypoplasia to extreme hyperplasia. In all connective tissues the same mechanism also operates, but with the added complication of constant cell recruitment from a multipotential stem cell population.
