Abstract
If it is accepted that the incidence of congenital heart disease is six per thousand live births, then the incidence of isolated patent ductus arteriosus is around 7% of all of these with congenital heart disease. In the first year of life the incidence at sea level is 0.04%, and at high altitudes 0.72%.
