Abstract
There are three major anatomic abnormalities in the heart of patients with complete atrioventricular canal which influence the outcome of the surgical repair. These are:

1.
deficiency of the posterior base of the heart;

2.
malalignment between atrial and ventricular septa;

3.
malformation of the mitral and tricuspid valves.
