A double blind cross-over study with conjugated equine estrogens on blood clotting

  • Chapter

Abstract

The present report describes blood clotting studies performed during the study initiated by Dr. Coope on the clinical and laboratory effects of the administration of natural estrogens for menopausal symptoms. Synthetic estrogens are known to carry a thrombosis risk and in our studies which have extended over a number of years since the early 1960s we have shown that all oral contraceptive preparations monitored which contained synthetic estrogens produced acceleration of blood clotting tests and increased platelet aggregation1–6.
