Abstract

There’s been a wild rumour, current for a few thousand years, that the female mind is illogical. Obviously you will not expect me to confirm that. But I have to admit where the menopause is concerned women’s views, if not illogical, can at least be strangely ambivalent. With one part of her mind a woman may positively welcome the onset of infertility and the end of risk of pregnancy, while simultaneously at a deeper level she may feel threatened, diminished and devalued.
