Abstract
Hospitals are the most expensive and the most specialised part of the modern medical care system. They cannot function effectively in isolation and without collaboration from the first-contact and ambulatory specialist services, they fulfil several specific roles in the community. The hospital provides in-patient care, out-patient service and acts as a diagnostic centre.
