Abstract
This chapter deals primarily with those animals that avoid the drought phase of a temporary pond or stream by leaving the habitat. Later, when the water returns, they either recolonize the same habitat or colonize a similar one within their dispersal range. Many such species use temporary waters exclusively as feeding and breeding grounds and spend the rest of their time in permanent water bodies.
