Abstract

The effect of purification by slow sand filters consists mainly of biological degradation. The non-bacterial growth of the surface is influenced by various environmental effects. This is shown by study of the biocoenoses of slow sand filters under different conditions. Three biocides: Lindane, Diuron and Dimethoate are added to water in subtoxic concentrations. This experiment shows the sensitivity of the biocoenoses of slow sand filters.
