Ökologische Stabilität von Forstlichen Monokulturen als Problem der Bestandesstruktur

  • Chapter
Verhandlungen der Gesellschaft für Ökologie, Göttingen 1976

Abstract

Monocultures have a typically close interdependence between narrow economic goals and the physiological and ecological conditions under which these goals can be achieved. This limits the space for actions by which sustained stability can be assured. Comparison with natural forests and theoretical considerations indicates possibilities to manipulate stand structure in such a way that the main crop is grown as monoculture to achieve the economic goal of production of large-diameter logs by suitable tree shapes and stand structures. At the same time, the ecological stability and the biological value of the stands are improved. The effects of structure on energy and water balances and on turn-over rates of organic matter and nutrients are of primary importance in this respect.
