Abstract
‘It was once true that the practice of medicine did not greatly change between qualification and retirement; but nothing could be further from the truth now.’ Awareness of the accuracy of this quotation from the Report of the Steering Committee was probably the most important reason why so many doctors became Foundation Members of the College.
