Abstract
As the preceding chapters demonstrate, considerations of rare—common differences ramify in many directions. The exploration of possible mechanisms touches on fundamental issues in ecology, evolution and paleontology, to name but a few. In this final chapter we draw together some broad messages from this volume, and identify some important lacunae in coverage of the topic of rare—common differences. In doing so, we hope to stimulate further work in what we find an exciting field of research.
