Abstract

The removal of gastrointestinal foreign bodies is a challenge to most endoscopists. The clinician is presented with the problem of applying expectant management, endoscopy and surgery to obtain an optimal outcome. Foreign bodies are most often ingested accidentally by children during play. In adults: edentulous people, psychiatric patients and prisoners, the latter seeking the secondary gain of hospitalization, often ingest foreign bodies. In children coins are most often ingested, in adults meat and secondly bone impaction are well known1-9.
