Abstract

Electrosurgery (HF surgery) utilizes all therapeutically relevant thermal effects of high-frequency (HF) electric current in order to bring about thermal devitalization, incision, ablation of pathologic structures, and thermal hemostasis in biological tissue. Many endoscopic interventions such as polypectomy and sphincterotomy would be unthinkable without the use of electrosurgical procedures.
