Abstract
I begin by discussing the semantic information conveyed by aspectual viewpoints, and semantic tests for the meaning of a viewpoint. The next section, 4.2, presents the main types of aspectual viewpoints, with examples of variations that occur in the five languages of this study. 4.3 sets out several arguments for the independence of viewpoint and situation type. Finally, in 4.4 I discuss pragmatic inferences and conventions of use associated with the viewpoints.
