Abstract

LC/MS is a rapidly developing technique for the analysis of complex mixtures unsuitable for GC/MS analysis without the necessity of preparing volatile derivatives. Polar, ionic, involatile, high molecular weight and thermally labile analytes are readily chromatographed by HPLC which is also often used to separate analytes amenble to GC, simply because sample extraction and clean up can be more straightforward prior to LC, or because the method is quicker, more specific or more convenient.
