Abstract
This paper presents and discusses a methodology proposed for Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Assembly Planning integration and for Concurrent Engineering, in order to obtain the generation and selection of optimal assembly sequences and plans with reference to the life-cycle design and redesign of complex mechanical products. The methodology is based on the definition and analysis of suitable assembly product contact relations, dominant element and impediment concept, and on a Multiobjective Optimization approach, that implements a Genetic Algorithm technique.
