Abstract
A boron-polysaccharide complex isolated from cell walls of cultured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) BY-2 is a dimeric rhamnogalacturonan II (RG-II) cross-linked by borate-diol esters, the same as in the radish (Raphanus sativus) root cell wall. This complex can be reconstituted spontaneously in vitro simply by mixing monomeric RG-II and boric acid at pH 4. Germanic acid substitutes for boric acid in the reconstitution to some extent.
