Abstract

The concentration changes of endogenous indoleacetic acid (IAA) and zeatin/zeatin riboside (Z/ZR) in different pea (Pisum sativum) organs and their possible relation to the growth of lateral buds were investigated under boron (B)- deficient treatment. The results showed that the level of endogenous IAA in the plants continuously decreased from the outset of the B starvation, while the content of Z/ZR rapidly increased and reached its maximum on the eleventh day after the commencement of B treatment. It was just at this time that the elongation of lateral buds was visibly observed. These results suggest that the content changes of endogenous IAA and Z/ZR might be responsible for the growth of lateral buds in pea plants grown under B deficiency.
