Abstract
With the exception of the hot DO white dwarfs RE J 0503–289 (Barstow et al. 1994, Vennes et al. 1994a,b), PG 1034+001 (Werner et al. 1995), and HD 149499 B (Jordan et al. 1996a) all white dwarfs from which photospheric emission was detected in the EUV or X-ray are of type DA. At 100–300 Å a hydrogen atmosphere becomes very transparent and radiation from rather deep and hot layers can reach the surface of the star; therefore white dwarfs with pure hydrogen atmospheres emit much more flux in this spectral region than black bodies at the same temperature.
