Abstract

Design and performance of a balanced HEMT doubler and subharmonically pumped resistive mixer in uniplanar technology are described. The uniplanar in-phase and out-of-phase tee-junctions with a 2 octave bandwidth and a hybrid ring coupler with an 1.5 octave bandwidth from 3GHz to 9GHz have also been developed. The experimental results show that the doubler has an usable bandwidth 5–10 GHz with an LO drive of 6 dBm. The fundamental signal suppression at the output port is higher than 15dB. Mixer conversion loss of typically less than 8dB and an isolation between the signal and LO ports higher than 22dB have been achieved in the 5.4–15GHz range with a LO drive of 10 dBm. The mixer noise figure is between 7dB and 1ldB.
