Abstract
Historically, Chemical Agent Identification Sets (CAIS) were used to train soldiers and sailors in the detection and identification of chemical warfare materiel. The CAIS were produced in large quantities (approximately 110,000) and in various configurations during the years of manufacture and use (1928 to 1969). They were widely distributed to military installations for training purposes. CAIS were manufactured using military chemical agents (mustard and lewisite) and industrial compounds (phosgene, triphosgene, cyanogen chloride, chloropicrin, GA simulant, chloroacetophenone, and adamsite). Presently, the plan is to dispose of CAIS utilizing the Army developed and fabricated RRS.
