Abstract

With the dissolution of the former Soviet Union and the creation of the newly independent states along the coast of the Caspian Sea, ever-increasing attention has been focused onto this important and unique body of water and its basin. A brief review of the potential and vast possibilities of the Caspian Sea and its basin in supplying the different needs and resources of its littoral states may give an indication of its vital importance for the economies of the aforementioned communities.
