Abstract
Six years ago, Romania experienced a great political and social upheaval that drew the whole world’s attention. From the very beginning, astronomers tried to effect changes that would turn around the hopeless situation of their science. They hoped that the Great Change would bring the improvement so much expected in the life of the astronomical community. Less than two weeks after the Revolution, the leadership of the Institute was replaced and researchers began to search for the best way to emerge from the eclipse of Romanian astronomythat had lasted almost half a century.
