Abstract
The First Cadaveric Kidney Transplantation in the Slovak Republic was performed in June 1972 at the Department of Urology at the Dérer’s Hospital in Bratislava. The surgical team was constituted by Dr. Zvara, Řezníček, Horniak and Stojkovič. The recipient of the kidney was a stomatology technician suffering from terminal glomerulonephritis. Transplanted kidney recovered its function 3 weeks after the operation and kept appropriate functional capacity for 10 years. To date, the number of kidney transplantations at the Department of Urology in Bratislava exceeded 540.
