Micromagnetism of Small Structures

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 338))

Abstract

We discuss the switching of the magnetization in ultra-thin films, multilayers, nano-wires and particles. Results of Monte Carlo simulation are compared with experiments. Our results illustrates the importance of the dipolar interaction and the many subtle ways in which this interaction raise its interesting head. Interpretation of experimental data in terms of the uniform rotation picture is found to be inadequate. Some details of the simulation will also be discussed.
