Abstract

A newly devised strut for ramjet and scramjet engines is proposed and results of combustion experiments on this strut in supersonic airflow of Mach number 1.5. are reported. This strut model is composed of two parts divided streamwise, one of which can change in response to the airflow conditions. Hydrogen gas was injected into the interval between the two parts of the strut from the rear end of the foremost strut. Based on the flame-holding mechanism explained in the authors’ previous reports, three techniques were used to obtain a wider flame-holding region. These techniques worked reasonably well and the flame-holding region was widened.
