Abstract
Ideally with good insect pest management, actual damage to the host should be avoided. In practice, however, it is more usual to find damage at some level as part of the pest assessment process. There are many different ways in which the host organism is damaged by the pest, and sometimes it is convenient to group them under two headings: indirect and direct damage.
