Abstract

As already mentioned, we do tend to be overly preoccupied with insects as pests because of the damage they do and their importance in relation to human affairs. In order to study the subject and to communicate properly, it is necessary to have the correct vocabulary: hence the need for specific definitions in this small chapter. For a detailed ‘Glossary of Entomology’, the extensive work by Torre-Bueno (1937), now revised and updated by Nichols (1989), is highly recommended.
