Abstract
The theory of parametric curves and surfaces was well understood in differential geometry. Their possibilities for the representation of curves and surfaces in a Computer Aided Design (CAD) environment were not known at all, however. The exploration of the use of parametric curves and surfaces can be viewed as the origin of Computer Aided Geometric Design (CAGD).
