Molecular Recognition and Inclusion

Abstract

Crystallization is a good example of molecular recognition. The realized crystal structures are the result of a balance or compromise between intermolecular interactions of different strengths. In order to design materials with desired properties it is important to understand the laws governing the packing of organic molecules. Systematic X-ray analyses of cocrystals of synthetic host molecules provide excellent opportunities for investigation of non-covalent interactions between different groups in various environments.
