Abstract
The Arcon CCD controller used at NOAO employs a network of transputers for its control and communication backbone. This distributed parallel processing technology presents two packaging possibilities for extension to large mosaics. Rather than assemble a 16 channel controller in a single large enclosure, we chose to operate each quadrant of the CCD mosaic with a nearly standard quad readout Arcon. This paper describes the advantages and requirements of this approach.
