Abstract

It is natural to assume that the philosophy of decision-making is the theory of decision-making, or at least is about the general assumptions of such a theory. Thus one might say that one such philosophy consists in treating decision-making as being the result of maximization; more specifically, maximization of a compound of values and beliefs. Another philosophy tries to make decision-making objective by eliminating, or at least playing down, the role of beliefs (which are interpreted as subjective estimates of chance). There are, of course, several variants of these two philosophies.
