Summary

Joint implementation secures low cost emission reduction by changing the location at which emission reduction is undertaken: emission reduction is undertaken abroad where it costs less, rather than at home where it costs more. Joint implementation sees low cost emission reduction brought forward in time to be undertaken now whilst expensive emission reduction is deferred into the future.
