Abstract

Most problems in carbohydrate analysis arise from investigation of biological systems, so that we need highly sensitive methods of analysis. In the last two years, some papers on PSD MALDI MS of oligosaccharides have been published [1–4] and it appears that PSD may became the method of choice to distinguish isomeric oligosaccharides. In figure 1 the PSD spectra of the four isomeric lacto-N-fucopentaoses (LNFP) shown in table I are reported. The spectra are quite different allowing easily the differentiation, though the structures in table 1 are very similar.
