Abstract

UDP-N-Acetylglucosamine βl, 4-galactosyltransferase (GalT) belongs to the large family of glycosyltransferases, and is responsible for the transfer of galactose to N-acetylglucosamine terminated glycoproteins and glycolipids. Previous research works have shown the association of GalT with various physiological alterations such as cancer (Gaudushon et al 1983; Davey et al 1986; Uemura et al 1988), rheumathoid arthritis (Axford et al 1987; Wilson et al 1993) and hepatic diseases (Kim et al 1972; Stibler et al 1991; Xin et al 1995).
